State Patrol Investigates Fatal Crash


The Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Interstate 70 around mile post 70.

At approximately 11:38 am on August 11, 2017, a 2013 Toyota Rav4, driven by Jerry Banks, 79, of Columbus, Ohio was traveling west bound on Interstate 70 when he drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a fence. Mr. Banks was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

Jerry Banks was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger Bernice Banks was not injured.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to have played a part in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Springfield Post was assisted at the scene by the Clark County Sheriff’s office, Pleasant and Harmony Township Fire and EMS, and the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
